Eowyn and Rise
Every year, each Mooncup team member is given a share of the Mooncup funds to donate to a charity of their choice. Éowyn Towers, Mooncup’s Digital Media Manager, explains her choice here:
“I chose Brighton charity ‘Rise’ for my donation in part because I’d heard great things about the support they offer, and also because I feel passionately about the ‘hidden’ nature of domestic abuse; by its very essence ‘behind closed doors’ and rendering victims both invisible and dis-empowered. Rise offer accommodation, resettlement, crisis appointments, helpline, counselling, housing, legal and financial advice, solicitors appointments, support groups, play therapy, 1-to-1 support and training and preventative education to people affected by domestic abuse. The website’s got a lot of great information on it, but the part that impacted on me most was the ‘Quick Exit – Click here to leave the site immediately’. The picture this simple feature painted was, for me, a heart-lurching case in point for the vital importance of organisations like Rise and their vision of ‘freedom from domestic abuse'”.
