Kath and Melanie Horton

Kath and Melanie Horton

Every year, each Mooncup team member is given a share of the Mooncup funds to donate to a charity of their choice. Kath Clements, Mooncup’s Marketing Manager, explains her choice here:

“Last year, I was without a doubt about the cause I immediately wanted to support. I donated my piece of the Mooncup charity pie to fundraise for a beautiful, feisty friend, Melanie Horton who was diagnosed with a very rare form of hereditary kidney cancer. Her doctors in the UK couldn’t treat her specific cancer easily so her family enrolled her in a US clinical trial with a new form of targeted therapy. This new treatment, unavailable to her in the UK, was to combine two drugs to treat her specific cancer. The donation was my gesture to help with the costs of her travel and accommodation, specialist care, and complementary therapies. To my sadness, in spite of this, lovely Mel died on 7th October 2012. She wanted there to be no flowers at her grave, wanting all money to be donated instead to an animal sanctuary. She would have turned 44 on 31st March 2013 – and the world’s that bit dimmer without her x “
